My youngest brother was deployed in 2007 to Taji, Iraq.  After a few months of sending him care packages, he let me know that while they appreciated the effort, the items were not what they really needed.  He explained that deployed troops have very specific needs depending on their gender, location and time of year.  "AHA!"  My aha moment was realizing that most if not all deployed troops needed a way to request specific items.  So I launched HeroBox in May 2008 to meet that demand.  HeroBox is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that provides custom care packages to deployed American service members.  We have since developed a web platform that lets service members build a wish list.  State-side sponsors then have the opportunity to provide some or all of those items.  Currently we have sponsors in 46 states supporting thousands of service members, and our facebook members just surpassed 3.2 million!  I believe my "aha" moment is significant in that it has helped thousands of our country's finest!
