I've been a teacher for over 30 years. Throughout my career I've had the pleasure of teaching students and witnessing aha moments on a daily basis, especially in my first grade classroom. For instance, on Monday one of my students couldn't figure out how to subtract 5-3. We were sitting at a table together and I reviewed the process several times. We used fingers, dots, and coins. He still kept coming to me for help and I reviewed the problem with him over and over again. I was patient, and kind. We both erased his work and tried over and over again. Finally we counted his coins and we got the answer together, he loked at me very seriously and whispered, I got it! I was so happy. This has happened to me so many times. People always ask me why are you still teaching, aren't you retired? My answer is I love teaching and I love my students. Who wouldn't want to spend this special time with them. I'm blessed to share so many aha moments with children.
