Just like throwing a pebble in a lake, you might be able to see the ripples on the surface briefly, but it may have affected the area more deeply. Likewise, teaching affects the students beyond the time you spend with them. I teach social studies at a high school and coach cheerleading. Two of my former cheerleaders have graduated and have now become social studies teachers and coaches themselves.
