I had just finished culinary school in New Orleans and had my whole life mapped out. And then Katrina hit. I didn’t know what do to. I felt I had lost everything. I relocated back home to Jackson. 2 weeks later, I was the chef of a restaurant. 6 months later, I owned it. 6 months after that, my brother partnered with me. I was once again with my family and realized everything just fell into place. It doesn’t matter what you had planned, life has other plans.
Not realizing what was about to happen, I set out looking for a job and ended up owning a business with my brother. My aha moment came when I realized that all my work experience and all my life experience had prepared me for this; this is exactly where I am supposed to be.
