In 2006, I went to Uganda for the first time with a church group. While I was there, we found that school fees for children at the rural schools was approximately $25 per year, which also included a meal of porridge and a uniform for the children. Upon my return to the states, I found some research that said if a child in Uganda completes the Primary 7th grade level, they were 40% less likely to contract AIDS. When I talked about this with my then 12 year old son, he commented that $25 was an amount that almost anyone could give. Aha....maybe we should start finding sponsors for some of these orphans in Uganda who would not otherwise go to school. 2 1/2 years later, we have a non profit organization called Educate Uganda, we have nearly 1500 orphans attending school and just completed the construction of our second school building!! aha
