I drive a 1998 Mercury Sable that my grandpa bought new. He passed away in 2002 and my mom drove the car until 2005. Four years ago, the car became mine, and I have been driving it ever since. People always ask me what a 20-something with a descent job is doing driving around in an older family sedan. "That car doesn't say Lizzy Rasmussen" they tell me. "No it says Robert Vandegrift and that's what I like about it" is my usual response. To me it's a symbol of an era of fiscal responsibility too often gone by the wayside these days. Why demand a fancy new car . . . when this one is paid-for and reliable. He wrote a check for the car. Due to the care with which he treated the Sable it has driven nearly problem free for the past eleven years. Thanks Grandpa.
