I used to be a long distance runner. Two years ago I found out I had Osteoporosis and couldn’t run. What could I do for exercise? I hated equipment and gyms. I don’t like to swim because of the chlorine. I used to be a dancer, but I didn’t want to go out all night.
My aha moment came when I was walking in a fair in Oregon, and saw a woman doing exactly what I wanted to do — dance movements with a large hoop. It made me remember my childhood. And it made me smile—because who could hoop without smiling? I knew that was it. I Googled 'hoop dancing' and the rest is history.
Now I’m a certified hoop dance instructor. It’s led to changes in my life. I exercise every single day — I don’t want to miss a day. And I think about different ways I can hold the hoop, what tricks I’m going to do, different choreography, different kinds of music. My mind keeps seeing new patterns and new combinations, because one thing leads to another.
I’m so passionate about it, I travel everywhere with my hoop. Anytime people see me outside, they ask questions. I’m spreading hooping all over the world!
In an aha moment, everything is possibility. Your brain starts to click, and you figure all sorts of things out. It makes you feel as though there’s possibility everywhere.
And here’s the thing: That one aha moment reminds you of every other aha moment in your life. Everything comes together and it just feels right. It does change your life.
