I went on a mission to Haiti to try to provide basic necessities to a small village there. I brought with me some small toys for the children to hand out after they received their shots. Rather than welcome the toys, several of the children tried to bite into them and when they found that they couldn't be eaten, they threw them on the ground. I felt so foolish. These people are starving and lacking basic health services and shelter and it seemed like I wasn't makng a difference. I swore I would never return to Haiti but returned years later and felt like I had made a difference, even if it was for one person.
